With the amount of gas in its distribution system at a ‘historical’ low, the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) will suspend gas supply to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations across the province for 24 hours, starting from 9:00 am today.
“In the wake of an extraordinarily low pressure situation that has badly affected overall gas supply, the SSGC will shut off gas to the CNG stations in Karachi and interior Sindh for 24 hours from 9:00 am on Friday (today) until 9:00 am on Saturday (tomorrow),” it was announced during a meeting of the SSGC management with the CNG associations’ representatives held at the gas utility’s head office on Thursday.
Chairing the meeting, SSGC Operations Deputy Managing Director (DMD) Hassan Nawab told the participants that since the line pack (actual amount of gas in the distribution system) has fallen from 950mmcfd to a historical low of 750mmcfd, it was essential to shutdown CNG stations for leaving enough gas in the system for domestic consumption.
Reiterating that the SSGC realises its customers are facing an acute situation, the gas company’s management said that all options are being weighed to ensure an uninterrupted gas supply. “The [SSGC] management would appreciate the customers’ utmost cooperation in this regard for ensuring normal supply.”
At the meeting, SSGC’s SGM (Transmission) Shaukat Baloch, SGM (Distribution-North) Salim Ahmed Mughal, and SGM (Distribution-South) Shoaib Warsi, and CNG Dealers Association Chairman Abdul Sami Khan, CNG Station Owners’ Association Chairman Malik Khuda Baksh, All-Pakistan CNG Association (Sindh) Chairman Shabbir Sulemanji among other representatives and gas station owners were present.
