The Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mushtaq Ahmed Shah has constituted a high-powered committee on Thursday to prepare a comprehensive crime and criminal database at a meeting held at CPO. According to a statement, a two-point agenda was discussed at the meeting in detail to come up with result oriented reforms in day-to-day policing and strengthening of policing structure in order to remove bottlenecks and implement police strategy with practical approach aimed at controlling crimes as well as ensuring security to the citizens. During the meeting, Shah constituted a high powered committee, which includes the additional IGP Karachi, additional IGP CID, DIG East, West, SSP Central district and SSPs of Gulshan and Liaquatabad police divisions, to formulate proposal entailing recommendations. The committee has been asked to hold in depth study to have a crime and criminals database including finger prints and photographs of arrested criminals and suspects along with relevant self details in consultation with the Forensic division Sindh Police, CID and NADRA. The committee has been directed to put up its findings along with comprehensive recommendations within a week time. It was also agreed that once the data software is operational, NADRA would be requested through Interior Ministry to provide link for achieving desirable results. Speaking on the occasion some police officers maintained that ‘the computerized crime and criminal data software duly linked with NADRA would surely help facilitate arrests of criminals involved in all sort of crimes.’ Shah also asked the officers to identify bottlenecks confronting or ground policing and directed to submit recommendation to reform policing structure with special reference to area of jurisdictions.
