To head the inquiry into the death of a minor girl from falling into a manhole, the WASA MD has appointed an officer who was jailed on the CM’s orders some years back for showing negligence in his duty. MD Javed Iqbal appointed DMD Engineering Aftab ADhillon the head of the inquiry committee that will probe into the death of Rachel Baig, 11, who died after falling into a manhole in Johar Town. The WASA MD was not available for comments.
However, WASA Public Relations Director Imtiaz Ghauri said Dhillon was now a changed man. Sources in WASA told Pakistan Today that the WASA inquiry committee had not done much on Wednesday despite the fact that the WASA MD ordered the inquiry committee to submit its report within 24 hours. They said WASA officials had only recorded the statement of the director concerned. Meanwhile, Rachel Baig was laid to rest in a local grave yard after the completion of last rites. On other hand, Nawab Town police on Tuesday raided the residences of suspended WASA officials, including Johar Town XEN Rana Abdul Manan, SDO Salman Nisar and Sub-engineer Nosher Khan, but failed to make any arrests.
Investigations in-charge Asif Zulifqar said the nominated officials of WASA had gotten interim bail from court due to which they had not been arrested.
