The Crime Investigation Department (CID) of the Karachi police claimed to have arrested two vital militants of the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) with a hitlist comprising over 100 names of key figures.
The CID raided a house in Sohrab Goth and arrested Wahidur Rehman alias Guddu alias Lala and Muhammad Shakeel.
CID personnel also recovered 30 kilogrammes of explosives, four Kalashnikovs, three hand grenades, three kilogrammes of ball bearings, two TT pistols and dozens of bullets.
Mazhar Mashwani and Fayyaz Khan of the CID made these revelations in a joint press conference.
Senior Superintendent of Police Fayyaz Khan told the media that the CID has recovered a hitlist from the suspects.
The list comprises over 100 names of influential leaders and scholars of the Shia community, Khan added.
He said religious scholars and personnel of security forces and intelligence agencies are also on the hitlist.
“The detainees told the investigators that around two dozen of their accomplices are on a mission to kill influential personalities. Our department has asked the government to provide security to the people on the hitlist,” he added.
Khan said the arrested men have provided the CID with details of their accomplices involved in terrorist activities across Karachi.
“We have gathered the relevant information and are conducting raids for arresting these terrorists. We shall inform the media soon after we have detained the rest of the militants,” he added.
The accused men told the CID that they had been receiving instructions from Waziristan and that they were carrying out attacks on the orders of their leader Qari Aslam who lives in and operates their 25-member strong group from Waziristan.
It is pertinent to mention here that security forces have carried out successful raids in the past two weeks and killed at least five militants and arrested over two dozen suspects.
The detainees revealed that important government buildings, head offices of security agencies and Muharram processions were their primary targets.
However, due to the security forces’ raids, militants have failed to achieve their goals.
