Abbottabad Commission records statements of Asfandyar, others

The Abbottabad Commission, probing the US raid that killed al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden, recorded statements of different political leaders on Tuesday.
The commission met here under the chairmanship of justice retired Javed Iqbal. The commission recorded statements of Awami National Party (ANP) President Asfand Yar Wali and its leader Afrasayab Khatak, Jatmat-e-Islami Senator Prof Khursheed Ahmed and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Hamid Khan.
The commission has also summoned former Pakistan ambassador to US Hussain Haqqani and Pakistan High Commissioner in UK Wajid Shamsul Hassan to record their statements regarding the May 2 incident.
Earlier, Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal had said that the investigation into the May 2 raid that killed Osama bin Laden is expected to be completed by the end of December.
The commission was formed to ascertain facts regarding Bin Laden’s presence in Pakistan, to investigate the circumstances surrounding the US operation, to determine the nature, background and the security lapse on part of the authorities, if any, and to make consequential recommendations.
