The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has streamlined the issuance of driving licenses for citizens by opening a fee-depositing facility in collaboration with the National Bank of Pakistan. This NBP booth would facilitate citizens in the process of driving license issuance, said a statement issued here on Monday. It said the special booth was inaugurated by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Bani Amin Khan here at the ITP’s main office on Monday. SSP (Traffic) Dr Moeen Masood, Islamabad SSP Muhammad Yousuf Malik, SP (Traffic) Mirvais Niaz, NBP officials and other police officials were also present on the occasion. The IGP said utmost efforts were being made to facilitate the public and the whole process would be hassle free and ‘one-window operation’ after the formal opening of the NBP booth there.
Khan said that fee could be deposited at this NBP booth, which would be overseen by the head of accounts department concerned, who in turn would work under the Ministry of Finance. He hoped the new facility would be further upgraded for the convenience of the applicants. The SSP (Traffic) Dr Moeen Masood said all formalities had been taken care of before the launch and that the process would be streamlined further. He said every possible effort would be made to facilitate license seekers. Later, IGP Bani Amin Khan also witnessed the demolition of illegal pressure horns confiscated by the traffic police and said the noise pollution could be injurious to people’s health.
SSP (Traffic) Dr Moeen Masood told the audience that a special squad involving the ITP officials and Ministry of Environment staff were working to ensure noise-free traveling on the capital roads. The IGP also distributed four laptops among the police officials whose children had shown outstanding performances in their studies. He also handed over newly-purchased ‘speed- checking cameras’ to the ITP offi cials and hoped that the new gadgets would help the officials curb the violation of speed limits. Talking to reporters later, the IGP said a special drive would be underway soon against motorists whose vehicles had tinted glasses. To a question, he said police were investigating the five terrorists who had been nabbed by Shehzad town police.
