Health Dept seeks report on unauthorised fee raise in med schools

Punjab Health Department has ordered enquiry of the reports on public medical colleges charging raised fees despite disapproval of summaries of fee increase by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif. Secretary Health Jahanzeb Khan, taking notice of the news, asked additional health secretary (Technical) to present a report on the issue. According to the spokesperson of Health Department, all medical colleges of the province including four newly established in Sahiwal, DG Khan,
Gujranwala and Sialkot have been notified to clarify about the fee charged to first year students of MBBS. It was reported that some public medical colleges in the province were charging an extra Rs 2,500 to Rs 13,000 from MBBS first year students. According to admission policy 2011-12, the fee was fixed at Rs 14,551 for tuition and Rs 27,000 for hostel facility. However some public sector colleges were reported charging higher fees than stated in admission policy.
