Still no consensus over local government system

The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) continued discussions on Saturday over the proposed drafts of the new local government system to be implemented in the province.
Another round of discussions on the issue was held at the Sindh Chief Minister’s House between members of the major coalition partners.
The MQM was represented by Syed Sardar Ahmed, Dr Sagheer Ahmed, Wasay Jalil, Wasim Akhtar and former Hyderabad nazim Kunwar Naveed Jamil, while the PPP leaders and ministers included Pir Mazharul Haq, Agha Siraj Durrani, Rafiq Engineer and Saeed Ghani.
Representatives from both parties discussed different sections of the proposed drafts of the new local bodies system in detail and it was later decided that more discussions will be held in another meeting on December 14.
According to an official handout issued from the Sindh Chief Minister’s House, as soon as both the parties develop consensus over the proposed draft, it will be presented in the Sindh Assembly for formal legislation.
It is worth mentioning that despite holding several rounds of talks, the parties are yet to develop consensus over the issue.
