A total of 983 graduates were conferred degrees in business management and allied disciplines on Friday at the Institute of Business Management (IoBM)’s convocation held at its campus in Korangi Creek. There were also 11 gold medals and 27 certificates of merit.
The convocation was attended by luminaries in the fields of education, business, media, and social work, intellectuals and representatives of national and international organisations, according to a press release issued by the IoBM Public Affairs Section.
Also present on the occasion were IoBM students, their parents, faculty, management, staff and alumni.
The guest of honour on the occasion, imminent educationist and social worker Dr Shams Kassim Lakha stressed the need for ethics, social responsibility and mutual respect in society.
He stressed upon ethical behaviour in business through endeavouring for the ability to distinguish between right and wrong. He emphasised the importance of social responsibility through good governance.
He also highlighted respect for all fellow beings, irrespective of the “so-called” high or low social status. He felicitated the graduates and complimented the role their parents and faculty played towards their success
He also acknowledged the role of IoBM for developing bight young minds into future leaders of Pakistan. His message to graduates was to pursue merit.
In his keynote address, distinguished intellectual and media personality Javed Jabbar said that it was befitting for this convocation to be held on the Human Rights Day. He advised the graduating students that while rights remain important, what is vital for a civilized society is the responsibility factor. As such, rights and responsibilities go side by side. He highlighted the importance of will and vision leading to excellence, positive change or transformation beginning within oneself and hope and confidence.
Earlier, IoBM President Shahjehan Karim felicitated the graduating students and acknowledged their efforts, the sacrifices of their parents and the dedication of the faculty towards excellence in knowledge and competence.
“The IoBM stands shoulder to shoulder with the best business schools, not only in Pakistan, but also in the South Asian region,” he pointed out.
In 2010, at the Eduniversal’s annual Convention in Prague at its international ranking of 1000 business schools, IoBM was ranked as one of the top two schools in Pakistan. In 2011 at Eduniversal’s Convention in Shanghai, IoBM have not only retained our ranking, but have been designated as a “Good Business School with Regional Influence”. Additionally, this year, Eduniversal has adjudged two of IoBM’s masters programmes as best in the world and its six masters programmes as one of the best in Asia.
“This Institute with the help of Allah and the support of the government and the patriotic business community endeavours to be a reservoir of national strength and power. That is why it has earned local, national and international credibility for itself, for the IoBM family and for Pakistan over the years,” Karim said.
