Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif’s struggle to gain youth’s support continued on Friday, as he held an interactive session with Kinnaird College students during a seminar on women empowerment.
Addressing the seminar, the CM said that the role of women, especially girls, was of vital importance in national development and the goal of rapid progress and prosperity of the country could be achieved through their empowerment. Shahbaz announced setting up of a separate fund for provision of job opportunities to young women, adding that Kinnaird College was a prominent educational institution of the country and had a glorious record of academic and extracurricular activities. He said that Kinnaird College had produced prominent personalities, which were rendering commendable services in the judiciary, administration and other sectors.
Separately, the CM also launched his official accounts on social networking websites, including Facebook, Twitter and Ping, in a bid to interact with the youth after the mammoth rally of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) at Minar-e-Pakistan on October 30. Shahbaz himself holds online sessions on Facebook and addresses queries of the public. The PML N’s recent efforts to attract the youth also include introduction of the laptop scheme, entrance of Nawaz Sharif’s elder daughter Maryam into politics and construction of 42 playing grounds in Lahore.
After the interactive session at KC, Shahbaz updated his Facebook saying, “Today, I had the privilege of having a very frank and informal interactive discussion with the students of Kinnaird College, one of the premier educational institutions of Pakistan which has very intelligent and bright female students studying there. I enjoyed their frank, perceptive questions which were at times abrasive, and had a fruitful communication about the direction and objectives of my government.”
