Lahore Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Captain (r) Mobin, in order to ensure smooth traffic flow, on Friday ordered deployment of additional wardens at Canal Road during the ongoing development work aimed at expansion of the main artery of the city.
Chairing a meeting of traffic officers, the CTO directed DSPs and circle in-charges to remain on high alert during rush hours to ensure a smooth flow of traffic on both sides of the canal.
He said that a diversion plan had been prepared and heavy traffic from The Mall Underpass to Jail Road and Doctors Hospital to Campus Bridge on both sides would be diverted to other sides during the next two weeks.
Mobin said that carpeting of the road on both sides would start within a couple of weeks and people might face jams during rush hours, as the road would be partially or completely closed for traffic. He urged citizens to seek guidance from the traffic helpline 1519 and traffic radio before taking to Canal Road.

  1. After thirty years they finally decide to widen but it will be to no avail now. The "window of opportunity" is lost forever. At this stage there should have been a "smorgasbords" of transport modes along the canal. This is the green line that divides the "haves" and "have-nots". It is the natural N-S divide for the city. It should be designed by engineers not by Nazims and Politicians. Your children will stew in their father's incompetence for years. AND they deserve it too.
