A magistrate on Saturday framed charges against renowned TV artiste Atiqa Odho for possessing two wine bottles. Magistrate Hamayun Pervaiz, during a trial, indicted Odho formally in case of keeping two bottles of alcohol in her luggage during a domestic travel a few months ago. Odho, however, pleaded “not guilty”. Therefore, the magistrate directed the prosecution to produce the witnesses on the next date of hearing, December 17. The former APML central leader also filed an application in the court seeking exemption for her personal appearance in the case. But, the court rejected here plea and ordered her to appear before the court on every hearing.

  1. that would mean all the British Pakistanis can openly carry liquor when in Pakistan or her lawyer is just making up his own laws :p

  2. Oh, please leave the girl be. Exercise prosecutorial discretion, and drop charges. Your people are starving from inflation, dying in blasts, and you are concerned about such mediocre witch-hunts on morality.

  3. She could be a British but she wasn't in Britain…….. I think lawyer had couple of glass before coming to court 😉

  4. oh pleaase whts the big deal alcohol is readily available in pakistan and all the top politicians drink so why the hypocracy is it because shes a woman

    • And point is? If its a law it should not be broken. If you think it is foolish change it through the legislature.

  5. how about the time before the constitution of Pakistan 1973 was implemented?? Everyone was allowed then… what has changed now?? except for fundamentalism creeping into our society…. this is her choice to live as she wants to live, so let her live….

  6. I strongly feel that this poor lady is a victim of dirty politics. Champagne is very light alcohol ceremonial drink. To make a a hill out of mole is really disgusting. This lousy case against her must be dropped.

    • Its alcohol that is forbidden by law. Concentration? So are you telling me no one gets intoxicated after consuming champagne?

  7. OK she is british citizen & can possess liquor… BA EZAT BARE… hang on…. At the same time she is also a pakistani citizen,y not try her as a pakistani citizen

  8. why did she carry liquor…her stupidity…its easily available in Karachi…and even if they caught a bottle of wine in her hand carry….what prompted SC to take suo moto notice on this?….was that an important national security issue?///

  9. When is the rest of the (99%) of the population getting indicted for breaking the law. The only law abiding ppl in Pakistan (applies to India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, etc.) are the ones who are not getting an opportunity to break the law

  10. this issue has been politicised. i believe it should nt be too much publicised. and we should give her a break. waheed zaman

  11. ……………in Pakistan 10 million people drink alcohol …so what if she had it..anyway she is f**king hot ladyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy…………………………………………….

  12. Salam, she must be punished for justice, this is my opinion and for all in favor of her i have no very hard words but to comment "In west if Muslim women are wearing Hijab they are being charged and insulted publicly " please raise your voice in those countries as well. These things are curse on our society, crushing our culture and islamic values",

  13. if people have been sent to jail or were fine, over the same charges, then she should not be exempted. Martha Stewart broke the law and faced the music. Odho is no different…

  14. So she had a bottle of liqour, big deal. Stop picking on her and get after the murders, rapists and terrorists destroying our peace of mind.

  15. leave her alone people! So what if she had alcohol. Big deal!!! Pura Pakistan peeta hay behind closed doors………ab is ko kyu target karte ho!……….Peena acha nahi, I dont drink anymore, i quit 3 years ago, but that doesnt give me or anyone else the right to criticise others. Aur bari batay hay sudharnay kay liye, in Pakistan………..like corruption, poverty, hypocrisy, selfishness. Sort them out!!

  16. A law which makes posession, selling, purchasing, serving or perhaps even drinking alchohol is unislamic. According to Abu Hani and Abu Hanbal (the two jurist whom 90% of Sunni muslim follow) only drunkenness is prohibited in Islam and can be made an offence by the state. If somebody has more knowledge on this subject he should enlighten us on this subject.

  17. The thing is everyone is doing this non-sense but fortunately or unfortunately, the authorities have caught her red-handed.One can buy it from any hotel in islamabad, peshawar, lahore, even in underdeveloped cities of pakistan without any restriction..She might use liquor as a medicine for winter season as it provides resistance against cold..

  18. Shame on our Courts and Judges, who are showing so much in case of a lady. I don't know what had happened to our Judges and to their juducial activisim on the day when an American killer, who brutly had killed two Pakistani citizens in broad day light, in Lahore had been moved out of the country????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

  19. aaj isko ko na pakra to kal apni auladoon ko bhi gunna karnay dena. justice is for everyone even for zardari(when he leaves). Guys let the case proceed as it has legal value. Does showing a uk passport means u r not muslim? since she has done it she has to bear the consequences. Laws are meant to be applied and let us not make any exception and get every politicians. Y the hell was raymond davis excused. it`s time to show aggresion. back to the case it`s just like asking traffic police not to catch us because army (part of pakistan system) did not catch the nato airstrike. Whereas asking traffic police for army action is nonsense. Therefore catch all others too if u catch us is not good policy. Or blaming other us nay pehlay kiya ye kissi aur nay pehlay kiya does not mean anything.

  20. 1. Supreme Court (Pakistan) Ruling: Drinking Alcohol has no HADD in Islam (i.e. No Islamic Punishment).
    2. At maximum there are 40 Sticks (i.e. no lashes)
    3. In Islamic Sharia, there is absolutely no punishment on "Carrying" alcohol.

Let us see who wins the case. Mullahs or Sharia.
