The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) have exchanged their formulas regarding the local government (LG) system, F-League’s Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh told the media following a meeting between delegations of both parties on Thursday.
In the meeting, which was held in the chamber of MQM parliamentary leader Syed Sardar Ahmed, both parties agreed to continue the process of consultation on the issue of the LG system. Sheikh told the media that both the parties would mull over each other’s formulas. He said the F-League would support the system that is acceptable to all the people of the province.
The PML-F leader said the Pakistan People’s Party’s formula is similar to the 1979 LG system, whereas the MQM supports the 2001 LG system. “Our party has suggested a formula that’s an amalgamation of both,” he added. Besides Sheikh and Ahmed, the meeting was also attended by MQM’s Waseem Akhtar, Kanwar Naveed and Wasay Jalil, and PML-F’s Nusrat Saher Abbasi.
