The Sindh High Court (SHC) has asked the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) to clarify its position in the case of a man’s murder in a “fake encounter” and his family’s “illegal detention”.
Hasan Khan – father of Shahid Khan who was shot by the police for his “involvement in kidnapping for ransom” – has filed an application in the SHC, pleading the chief justice’s help for the release of Shahid’s wife and his infant son from police’s custody.
“We, after reading the report of Shahid’s encounter in a newspaper, met with Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) where an officer Ghulam Subhani made us hear the screams of our daughter-in-law and grandson and demanded Rs 1 million for their release,” read the application, a copy of which is available with Pakistan Today.
Meanwhile, Chief Justice Mushir Alam is said to have referred the petition to the MTI-II asking for an explanation from the AVCC officer, nominated by Hasan in the petition.
“Our son (Shahid) along with two others was declared Taliban and killed in a fake encounter four days back,” Ahsan pleaded in the petition No 7270/2011.
The application also accused Subhani of having threatened Hasan of killing his other family members should he fail to bring the money.
“I, being a poor mason, have nothing to do with kidnapping for ransom. And my son (Shahid) was a gentleman and not a kidnapper, something my neighbours would authenticate,” the old man said in the application.
Talking to Pakistan Today, Hasan said “Shahid telephoned us a week before his murder and said that he and his family have been arrested. He also asked us to pray for their well being.” He also claimed that the law enforcers killed his son in a bogus encountered on Wednesday after keeping him in custody for a week.
