Human rights lessons for youth

Awareness of human rights creates unity between us, whatever our belief, religion, political views, gender or race may be, said Fareeda Abbassi Bulbrook, chairperson of the Youth Together for Human Right Education (YTHRE).
“This unity and mutual respect are essential to gain a peaceful, creative and enjoyable future,” she said while speaking at a seminar was organised by the Women Media Centre (WMC) in collaboration with the YTHRE.
According to a press release issued on Friday, the main purpose of the seminar was to create awareness among youth about 30 rights granted by the Universal Declaration on Human Rights and the current situation of human rights in Pakistan.
“The youth remain the most vital forces to bring positive change in society. Our job in the field of education remains to provide the youth with guidelines for living and working well with all others,” said Bulbrook.
Speaking on the occasion, Fuazia Shaheen, executive director of the WMC, said that the media can play a vital role in creating awareness through various means.
At the end of the seminar, packages made by the participants of the 10-day electronic media course on “Ethnic Rivalries and Sectarianism” were screened, following which they were awarded with certificates.
