International Anti-Corruption Day, with the theme for this year, ‘Act against Corruption Today’, was observed on Friday across the world, including Pakistan.
December 9 was designated as International Anti-Corruption Day by the General Assembly of the United Nations to raise awareness of corruption and of the role of the convention, adopted in December 2005, in combating and preventing it. As developing nations become more involved in the world economy, the strength of their financial and government institutions is put to a test. The quality of these institutions will help to determine whether a country benefits from globalisation or not and how the gains are distributed throughout the society. According to Transparency International which publishes a yearly index, corruption is a serious challenge and undermines the potential benefits of globalisation.
