US Consulate General Lahore Public Affairs Officer Brinille Ellis honoured students graduating from a US-funded English language programme at Jamia Fatmia Taleem-ul-Quran Madrassa.
Brinille congratulated the students for their accomplishment saying, “When you learn a new language, you don’t just learn about words, but about the culture and the purpose behind all words. This understanding is the real gift of language learning. It’s a gift we hope will stay with you through your entire lives.”
Sixteen students graduated from the two-year Access English Microscholarship program organized by US Consulate General Lahore’s Public Affairs Section at the madrassa for boys. As she handed the students their certificates, Brinille said it was an honour to have worked with the madrassa for the past two years and she was proud of the students.
One student, using what he learned from the English language course, thanked the US Consulate General in English during the ceremony.
The US Mission’s Access English Microscholarship Programs provide after school English lessons to youth. These two year grant programs are active throughout Pakistan and have so far benefited over 6,000 Pakistani students, including 2,000 students from the Punjab alone.
The ceremony was also attended by Jamia Fatmia Madrassa Director Pir Gadezi, US Consulate General Lahore Cultural Affairs Officer Kathryn Kiser, Access Teacher Junaid Mansur, and other Jamia Fatmia Taleem-ul-Quran madrassa students and faculty.
