Rumours about President Asif Ali Zardari’s health started making rounds throughout the day after his sudden departure to the UAE after heart problems, Pakistan Today has learnt.
However, by the evening Zardari’s doctor and the Prime Minister’s House was clarifying that the president is stable and in Dubai for a routine check up. But apart from the optimism shown by official quarters, rumours that made way into the local and international media outlets suggest as if the president is in bad shape and may be on his way out on health grounds. One international media outlet reported that US President Barack Obama talked to Zardari over the telephone and reported his voice was “incoherent”. Rumours started spreading around after a local TV channel reported that President Zardari has been shifted to the UAE using an air ambulance after a heart attack.
People however believe that the president is out for good after the “memogate” scandal especially because the Supreme Court was set to call him for a hearing and all this was setting up a pretext for an “exit” for him. Heart specialists, however, said that myocardial infarction, which is popularly known as a heart attack, during which blood supply to the heart is blocked, can cause problems in breathing and possibly lead to incoherence in the patient as well. They believed that it is very dangerous to shift a heart patient in a critical condition to a different country by an air ambulance because “someone with three stunts and experiencing a heart attack is prone to a lot of complexities.
Hence it is not advisable to air lift the patient under such circumstances”. Doctors also believed that smoking is the biggest cause of a heart attack followed by diabetes and hypertension which might have been aroused due to the “tense” political atmosphere in the country.
Reportedly, the president smokes and many quarters believe that he is actually ill. Interestingly, Zardari left behind his son Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to stay in the country and many believe the reason to leave him behind is that he is the only one he could actually trust in his absence from the country.
