In a broad daylight robbery incident, a man was killed on resistance while three other including two policemen were injured in Raiwind police precincts. The robbers in police uniform looted Rs 0.6 million from van carrying salaries of the staff of Soraj Cotton Mill and escaped after killing a guard and injuring another guard and two policemen.
The deceased guard was identified as Awwal Khan, a resident of Attock and other as Khalid who is stated to be critical in hospital. According to details, four uniformed robbers stopped the van carrying cash of Rs 0.6 million near Bhatti Chowk at Raiwind Road, opened fire on guards and tried to flee from crime scene after robbing it when two Muhafiz of Raiwind police Amir and Adeel reached there on information from locals who tried to bar robbers but were injured in cross firing. A robber was also said to sustain bullet injuries however all four escaped from the scene.
The injured guards and policemen were taken to nearby hospital where Awwal Khan succumbed to bullet injuries. People gathered for a while to protest against the police for not controlling increasing crime. Punjab Food Minister Chaudhry Abdul Ghafoor was also said to have visited the spot where incident took place to pacify the protesters.
