The ban on pillion riding has been lifted after the peaceful passage of Ashura in Karachi, announced Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Wasan on Wednesday.
In an official notification issued by the Home Department, the imposition of ban on pillion riding on motorcycles/scooters under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code in Karachi Division has been withdrawn with immediate effect.
Talking to the media, the home minister appreciated the role of the law enforcement agencies for taking effective measures in maintaining law and order in the city.
He also expressed gratitude to the political parties for cooperating in this regard. Meanwhile, during a telephonic conversation, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani thanked Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain for his party’s cooperation in ensuring peaceful passage of Ashura in the metropolitan.
