The 26-member Royal Palm Golf Team defeated the Gymkhana Team by 32 points to 20 in the 5th Inter Club Golf Championship that was contested at the exquisite, par 72 Royal Palm Golf Course on Sunday. In this clash amongst the two leading golf clubs of the country, the established norm is that each participant seeks to tame his competitor from the other team and while desire fulfillment on that account may not turn out to be favourable and ultimate result might go the other way, the fact that you were a part of the clash makes the event downright enjoyable for every participant. Viewed from that angle, Gymkhana team may have lost, but they look forward to better performance in the contest to take place six months from now.
In this encounter the outstanding ones for Royal Palm in the four ball matches were the combinations of Sardar Murad/Tariq Misbah, Wazir Ali/Jameel Khalid, M. Rehman/Sharjeel Awan, Sohail Rana/Abbas Ali Khan, Faisal Syed/Waheed Aslam, Imran Mian/Imran Miraj, Asad Hameed/Zarik Jamil winning two points each for their supremacy over the rivals. The combinations of Royal Palm who ended up level were Asad Agha/M. Leghari and Lt. Gen (r)Tariq and Ramzan Sheikh. The combinations that stood out for Gymkhana were Shafiq Bhatti/Aftab Arshad, Asad Khan/AVM Zakaullah, Khurshid Aziz/Jamal Nasir, Col (r) Hamayun Rashid/Dr. Dildar Hussain, whereas Dr. Zafar Nasrullah/Dr. Khurram halved their match. In the match amongst captains Amir Mehmood of Gymkhana was outstanding and secured a consolation point for Gymkhana. At the end of the event the teams were introduced to Mian Misbahurrehman, Chairman, Lahore Gymkhana and he awarded the winning trophy to Royal Palm Team.
