Pakistani American businessman Mansoor Ijaz opened yet another Pandora’s Box on Sunday when he claimed that the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), especially its “S wing”, was not only out of the Pakistan government’s control but also directly affected the results of elections in the country. In an interview with CNN, Ijaz accused the ISI of intervening in the political affairs of Afghanistan using the Haqqani network. He also said there was a lot of evidence available on the secret agency’s involvement in setting the political stage in its own country. “Many times in the past,” he elaborated, “it has been authentically and very authoritatively reported by the Pakistan media that the ‘S’ branch was involved in manipulating the results of elections and doing things of such nature inside Pakistan.”
The same “S wing” of the ISI was also mentioned in the controversial memo sent to General Mike Mullen. He also said this was an organ of state that nobody could control and the army tried to obstruct whatever the government planned to do through it. “There happened a lot of bad things after May 2 behind which there definitely were some secret hands,” said Ijaz. It would take some 30 to 40 years for Pakistan’s civilian governments to bring the army under its control, he added.

  1. 30 t0 40 years may be an overestimate but more like another two generations, something like 20 years. Pakistan needs sensible and forward looking politicians and ambassadors who can conduct themselves in a professionally sound manner.

In the meantime Armed Forces of Pakistan and its spy agencies can continue to engage in a constructive role to safeguard its independence. Politicians in Pakistan can only have the riddance of this overarching and overlooking big brother if they grow out of Pakistani student union type politics.

  2. Well i would wish that Army & ISI should never be taken into govt control…. other wise they will the replica of so called hypocrites (Politicians….) The center of corruptions :p indeed…

  3. I do not see army or ISI will come under elected government control any tome in future. It is like a dreame if any one thinks that civlian government would control it in Pakistan's life. I feel surprise when Imran Khan claimed in his interview with an Indian journalist that he will do it. It is the biggest joke by him. I do not say that this kind of system is right or wrong, God knows better and pray for a progressive Pakistan.

  4. is CIA under control of US govt control? Big NO. No intelligence agency in the world is ubder Govt control becase they to keep eye on them from national security point of view. They donot spare even their own bosses. It is job requirement.

    • WRONG! It's a big YES. CIA is under total control of the administration. They are answerable to civilian organs of the government (i.e., state department), US senate has oversight on the agency. Appointment of the agency head is by the President (a civilian leader) with approval by senate (a senate body). The budget area is a bit murky (i.e., numbers are not published), but the congress still holds the string of the purse. CIA chiefs never came from the military ranks. ISI chiefs are never going to come from outside the military ranks.

      Hope you understood the differences…

  5. yes you are write CIA is total control of the administration but what about the contractors which are being used by them for killing the peoples in Iraq, Afghanistan….. also have the peoples like Mr. Ijaz who do every thing like the kinder-garden student

  6. It is totally rubish statement by Ejaz agaisnt the honourable ISI.He is in a democratic and well educated counrty should know that this sort of agencies are part and parcel for the smooth and running of peaceful administration are working independently in almost every country of the global areas. In some countries they open, but in most of the countries, they are doing their duties secrectly. And are under the government.they are very active and they have to.bcoz in the so-called democratic countries, every ruling party use them for their interests, which is not logicaly best in the greater interest of the country. So they have to function freely and without any influence.Pakistan`s ISI is playing utmost and vital role for running the country in the fine direction and we are proud of our this Department. Can we suggest to other countries to abandon their activities, they would not do that,As this Department is the backbone of the country`s solidarity. So plz.do not disturb ISI as the tenire of the ruling party is only 5 years and they try to use them for their own interest.Pakistan is luckily on the world map due to their existence.WE ARE PROUD OF ISI .ISI LONG LIVE AAMEEN SUUM AAMEEN.KEEP UP THIS SPIRIT FOR THE GLORY OF PAKISTA.

  7. good thing it is out of the government control , otherwise it too would be impotent like the railways and PIA , imagine rehman malik heading the ISI lol .
Mansoor ijaz is a traitor who on several occasions has said that the ISI should be declared a terrorist organization and that Pakistan’s nukes should be taken away .

  8. No where in the world the governments are in control of the their intelligence agencies.
Intelligence agencies are not supposed to be in control of the goverment. They should be independent or Linked with the Army in most cases depending alot of the issues a country faces and all.

  9. before his latest revelation i was convinced that he is right in his claim but after watching his interview with fox tv and then with sana bucha on geo tv it in now quite obvious that “the man is a liar”

  10. this guy needs to be deported over here. Then taken for a ride to changa manga ke janglaat lol. Damn proud of my ISI. It functioning exactly the way a top intel agency should function. If only he could be tried for treason….

  11. Mansoor Ijaz is 100 % right! If ISI are doing such a wonderful job then why coludn’t they protect thousands of Pakistanis who lost their lives to terrorism acts over the last decade? Why – because they are mixed up and probably involved themselves! ISI is the biggest curse for Pakistan! How could they not know Bin Laden was in Abbotabad? They knew and they gave him sanctuary. I don’t trust them at all!

  12. somebody leash them…..do Pakistan a favor!

    somebody……anybody……?????………eeeccccchhhhhhhoooooooooo!

  13. why mansoor ijaz is so Outspoken about our internal affairs??? if ISI does interfere on our matters, so what?? the agencies of other countries like RAW, MOSAD, CIA, KGB nag many others do not interfere in their matters?? He is barking on someone’s move.. Pakistan should tell him that its our own matter.. You better mind your own business. Why An american citizen is so keenand curious about our matters?? And I beg Mian Brothers not to go to court and seek a judicial commission.

  14. I think Ijaz Mansoor should concentrate on his American accent, rather than commenting on Pakistani affairs, which he knows nothing about.
