FHM India defends Veena’s shoot

India’s version of FHM magazine has defended the cover of its latest issue which shows a nude Veena Malik with the initials of Pakistan’s powerful intelligence agency displayed on her arm.
The magazine’s December issue has yet to hit news stands. But a preview of the cover on its website triggered a media frenzy which intensified when actress Veena Malik denied posing nude and accused FHM of doctoring her image.
The editor of FHM India, Kabeer Sharma, told AFP at the weekend that he was mystified by Malik’s allegations.
“Maybe she is facing some kind of backlash, so maybe that’s why she is denying it.
“We have not photoshopped or faked the cover. This is what she looks like, she has an amazing body,” Sharma said.
While Malik’s pose preserves a scant degree of modesty, any nudity is still very much frowned upon in conservative India — and indeed in Muslim-majority Pakistan.
What has raised more eyebrows was her arm sporting the initials ISI — the acronym for Inter Services Intelligence, Pakistan’s spy agency.
Sharma said the idea had been to take an ironic swipe at India’s obsession with the ISI.
A tag line on the cover which points to the initials, reads: “Hand in the end of the world too?”
“People, especially young people in both countries, want to move past this kind of thinking,” the editor said.
“It’s a very powerful picture — it took a lot of guts for her to do that. It shows a powerful, sexy woman not afraid to speak her mind.”
Malik is already known in India for appearing on “Bigg Boss”, the country’s version of the television reality show “Big Brother”.
Speaking to a private TV channel on Saturday, Malik insisted the nude photos were faked.
“I agreed to a photo shoot and having an ISI tattoo in a humorous way but I did not have any nude photos. My pictures have been morphed,” she said.
Sharma responded on his Twitter site Monday, saying he would release a series of photos from the shoot proving his version of the story.

  1. BAS kerdo yar. there are other things that need attention. how about poverty, deaths, karzai’s shitty accent…SO.MUCH. stop giving her the attention she loves.

  2. Who cares yaar – we know who and what she is. Lets discuss more important issues like the Sindh floods, security, joblessness and extremism. Veena is a total non issue at this point. Wait till the "other" photos that Sharma referred to come out – we'll again forget about all important issues. I am more loving how Imran Khan is scaring the living daylights out of everyone!! LOOLLSS.

  3. How shameful acts,,just for money which is HARAM,, being a citizen of ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF PAKISTAN, blame not goes to veena,,but the parents,,the society,,,the Governments,,,and all of US, VEENA an example of our diverted youth who dont know good or bad,,not taught and dont follow islamic teachings… Sinful acts of IBLEES are attractful, but the results are harmful in this life & after death..

  4. Time will tell if Pakistan has the will to indict Ms Malik for choosing to portray herself nude, but then again one has to understand as an actress it is her job as much as her faith is the job of certain clerics who now have to decide if its best to allow one woman to have her way rather that provoke an entire nation of women and future instances of going against what some are beginning to concede as irrelevant and malevolent attitudes towards women. Meanwhile perhaps those in power in Pakistan can begin to concentrate on the rampant strife and dichotomies that inflicts it everyday, never mind the sight of a purported naked women in a magazine.
