Forman Christain College’s first TEDx kicked off with a blast at the college campus on Saturday. Distinguished speakers including founder of Akhuwat Dr Amjad Saqib, an academic, historian and ex-chairperson of National Commission on the Status Of Women Dr Arfa Zehra and the founder of Justice Project Pakistan, an organisation of lawyers defending the poorest prisoners facing the harshest punishments, Sarah Belal addressed the occasion. Saqib, in his speech, threw light on the story of Akhuwat. He told the audience that how he with his friends gave interest free loan to a widow who after sewing clothes started an independent life. Dr Amjad said he started with just Rs 10,000 and now Akhuwat had a Rs 1.5 billion interest-free loan fund. He talked about the exploitative capitalist system and said the interest free economy was the only way out. He also discussed the principles of Akhuwat and asked the audience to be among the givers. Dr Arifa asked the audience to live with dignity and honour. She also asked the youth to be the true representatives of Allah and follow His commandments.
