Don’t expect virgins if women allowed to drive: Saudi clerics

Allowing women to drive in Saudi Arabia would result in ‘no more virgins,’ Saudi Arabia’s highest religious council has warned, according to a report in Daily Mail. The ‘scientific’ report by the council alleged that relaxing the ban on women drivers, would also see more Saudis, both men and women, turn to homosexuality and pornography. The conclusions were drawn by clerics at the Majlis al-Ifta’ al-A’ala, Saudi Arabia’s religious council, in conjunction with Kamal Subhi, a former professor at the King Fahd University. The scholars, in their report, evaluated the possible impact of repealing the ban in Saudi Arabia, the only country in the world where women are not to drive. According to the account, allowing women to drive would ‘provoke a surge in prostitution, pornography, homosexuality and divorce.’ The scholars claimed that within ten years of lifting the ban, ‘no more virgins’ would be left in the Islamic kingdom. They corroborated their point of ‘moral decline’ by observing that in other Muslim countries where women are allowed to drive the moral decline is already visible. In the report, Professor Subhi, explained by describing his experience at a coffee shop in an unnamed Arab state. “All the women were looking at me,” he wrote. “One made a gesture that made it clear she was available… this is what happens when women are allowed to drive,” he concluded. The report came after Shaima Jastaniya, a 34-year-old Saudi woman, was sentenced to 10 lashes with a whip after being caught driving in Jeddah.

    • well if its hard for you to understand then let me explain in detail how….at this point in time when there's a lott of wealthh and corruption of the saudis…. woman driving is just like strawberries and flying candies landing right into your mouth. The saudis have degenerated in values and suffer from much frustration due to excess of wealth and while this goes on… women being allowed to drive will actually unleash a whole set of moral chaos as both men and woman are looking forward to get unleashed morally like rest of the world.. In this hard time we should rather support saudis for their efforts to preserve morality… As they're the decendents of our prophet and should stand together to protect their honor and respect.

      • You are an ignorant imbecile… an IDIOT… an F'ing bigot and definately perverted just like the douch-bag who shared his coffee shop "experience"…

      • very well said …among this butchery of words supporting this and that and presenting so and so philosophies and teaching the world all the moralities..beautifully scripted 🙂

  1. I am afraid I don't buy this. This is stupid. Does not make any sense to me.

No disrespect to anyone but moral corruption and decadence cannot take root because of allowing women to drive. They are wearing burqas and observing purdah while doing that right?

If they are wearing a bikini underneath the burqah one needs to address the reason for why they choose to do that rather than put a ban on driving.

And I think the Tableeghi Jamat of Raiwind is doing a great job of addressing this problem. Now only if they were allowed to operate freely in Saudi, I wonder what would happen because I have seen them radically transform peoples' lives including muslims and non-muslims alike.

    • wht the hell has happened to pakistani women plz explain tht …… and wht if they achieve all wht they want without driving cars ?? can u stop tht aswell ?? …, thts so dumb of you dear … open your eyes dude becoz if somebady wants to gt somethng he can figure out a way how to … so if u want to ban driving then internet shuld be banned to them and the mobile phones aswell ,,,,, lets paint them permanently in black and keep them chained … how abt tht ?

  2. ? driving a car leads to pornography? how does that work? if a woman can't drive, can't she take a taxi to go meet her lover? or her director? this is stupid, stupid, stupid. and entirely unislamic. islam treats women as equals. this is pathetic misuse of power.

    • In saudia a women cant step outside without a boy/man who is his mehram , so she cant take taxi at all … and in that country there is a market of prostitution already , and they dont want to promote it …!

  3. Damn.. I am just speechless. When Saudis will be mature enough, God know/ This is what ppl of other religion laugh at us (Muslims).
Is its only Saudia the Muslim country????
Women in all other countries/Muslim countries are not virgins who drive???
This is not teaching of Islam. This is sick mentality of the people of The Great Kingdom

    • Well i think every country has its laws,
in UK if you wear a bikini they dont mind .. cause its their culture
But in Pakistan if you wear bikini then God Forbid .. that girl has to bear alot of things
same as the case with SAUDIA, They dont let their women alone, cause they think its not safe, and you cant blame anyone without tasting their culture …

  4. If this is the level of trust you're going to give your women, how can you trust them in any other aspect of life…? How can you even live with them? How can you even leave them alone at home in that case? How can you expect them to raise your kids like sensible, respectable humans if you think they have charaters that cannot be trusted?

    • its not about TRUST, its about Safety of their women.
If KSA believes this thing , then they have already based this thing on something .. and most of their laws are based on QURAN … can you ignore that . .. tell me ?

      • "Their laws are based on Quran.. Can you ignore that? TELL ME!!"

Wahab what you just said is the best way to blackmail and shut one up.. When one can't make enough sense and has nothing rational or logical to defend his opinion/point-of-view, this is how they back their claims.. Come on buddy, Quran has nothing against women driving a car. And im sure you can do better than trying to shut people up by saying what youre saying goes against Quran. can you ignore that etc..

Im a male and i've been driving for more than 7 years and driving a car never led me to homosexuality & pornography. Same goes for women. Its easy to hide your ignorance behind the "Quran says so" claim. Lets develop some courage to actually think form our heads and also open Quran to see if it says anything to that effect that forbids a woman from driving.

And by the way this stupid cleric misinterpreted gestures of women in a cafe.. They were probably laughing at him thinking look there sits the fat moron and he thought there smiles meant "We are available" 🙂 or maybe he knew well what they were thinking and took the revenge from all the women of his country.

        • my morally and socially liberated friend…same does not apply to women as you have commented…women are always under the firing gaze of men and a lot of drama unfolds after the two opposite genders see each other and mischief crawls into the hearts of young fellow beings…its GOT EVERYTHING to do with respect for them and keep those evil buds nipped in for good…when they have the freedom to go where they like and do what they want not necessarily not significantly dress up in a bikini and walk around in the kingdom if they wish to do so as you might think consists of free will too…anyway getting back to point when you have the right to be driven to where ever you would like to go chaperoned with all honesty…why insist on driving ?..i would love if such a ban was on men…but ths my opinion…so lets support this it doesnt at all undermine any womans abilities or subject them to any under rated treatment …man kind is prone to make mistakes and prevention is far better than cure..Go Saudi!!

        • I totally agree with Hasan. The reason men in Saudi Arabia are so afraid of women there is that they might actually gain INDEPENDENCE from all the stupid laws enforced upon them. Driving would liberate many women trapped at home, not lead them to all sorts of things which secretly most men indulge in any how!

    • it is not their character specifically under scrutiny or targeted A dear woman ..it is largely to do how society shapes and how people are forced to imply certain derogatory changes in their lives and incorporate largely social immoralities in thier life styles…no one said women are not to be trusted if they drive..it's the queenly status they receive in the kingdom safe guarding them from the eyes of men…giving them respect and stature …the point to be noted is how certain individuals can have some effect on socities…like anywhere else in the world!.

  5. I am a Pakistani woman…been driving for ten years now and am a virgin. Every single woman driver i know is a virgin too. I think we just defied some scientific research

    • I m sorry, i think you have taken it in a wrong sense. I am not against Women driving , But in Saudia a girl is not allowed to step outside without mehram! so they cant allow them driving!
And let me tell you one thing , they dont want to promote girls or women to go freely everywhere. Our Country have promoted prostitution and this HIGH SOCIETY DIRTY culture in its touching peaks …

    • virginity is your personal thing, dont u think so? is some mullah gonna check and give u certificate for it…….no state got anythng to do with it….

    • yea every one you know is a virgin…how so well known you are of the private parts of the other female drivers…:) i wonder if you are a gynecologist or what?…you just defied some science right there my friend looking at every single woman driver and issuing her a Virginity or Non Virginity certificate..what a gaze you must have

  6. such a senseless decision. I don't know why do they make make decisions on the basis of darker sides that is always not more than 5% of the total. It really is one of the stupidest decisions they keep making all the time. i think they have nothing else to do.

  7. ksi kuty ke aolad hain saudi arab k molvi…begairt…..kameeno ko aorat ke izzat krna be nahn ata….

  8. You dont know about Saudi society ,absolutely different from Pakistani society. Islam is a religion for all human kind but after seeing them I understand many things much more better. There is another reason it’s already too many cars already on the roads, every house has two or three cars and after every woman ll have car there wont be more space left on road to drive… Most important it’s their own problem… After living in Saudi Arabia I know when religious council is saying so its right… It ll be like this… Don’t compare or think it’s like Pakistan….

  9. Again, all for the benefit of men at the expense of women. What other country cites ‘less virgins’ as a reason to disallow women to drive? Bloody crazy.

    • yeah you would say that wont you?…:P you see all the flaws in there…show casing your women in the name of fashion and liberation freewill freedom and what not …morphing and ridiculing them into less salaries harassment at work and mistreatment and showing no respect to those dressed timidly …you sy your part of the world respects women right?…thats why there would be sky rocketing divorce rates homosexuals and what not…? it's not bloody crazy its one of the most sensible things to do…we are all like vultures fueled by the shit spread by the obscene media so our Muslim Queens deserve this…this is not an implication ..its a gift

    • Absolutely now thats what you call a sensible comment…good going brother…post this on to some fellows over here dropping by here to post on this from oceans away …lets see what they say? 🙂

  10. If male drivers are banned will they be virgins when you marry them I dont think so as far as I know Saudi women are sleeping with thier drivers male servants and anything that is available out of desperation bcos thier husbands are busy fucking around with other women so the problem actually lies in the attitudes of men towards thier "women" who are nothing more than well fed cattle to them .

  11. WHAT?

I have studied Islam for a long time in comparison with other religions of the world and I am dumfounded with the baseless logic behind this research and course of admission against it. So to speak, if this were the case; how would one justify the role of women during the times of Muhammad (PBUH) taking care of businesses and even participating during wars to feed the starved and injured?

This is completely ludicrous and a call for mockery and a source of great damage to the greatest religion in the world. A religion renowned for it’s normality, logic and support of best practices to lead a perfectly normal, healthy life is being toyed by a group of people who have provided absolutely incongruous basis for this recommendation.

Such nuisance is only created by the Arabic men to dominate their presence reflecting their pessimism exactly the way it was before Muhammad (PBUH) where they would bury their newly born baby girls alive for it was considered a shame to have a girl born in their home till the time Muhammad (PBUH) started to spread the word of God and started to educate such illiterates about the importance of women in Islam. No wonder most men did not/do not bother to understand the message of God conveyed in the sura Al-Nisa of holy Koran.

I still do not have words to express my grief hearing such news. No wonder, Arab men today burn billions of petro-dollars for the sole purpose of their entertainment (I would not like to go into the details of their filthy actions and the way they spend their money in our countries) but when it comes to their women, they would like to ensure that such laws are implemented to seize any form of development and respect for women in their society, something that is women’s basic right in Islam.

    Tut-tut; what a shame!

  12. That's akin to saying, if you allow pork sales in a country like Saudi Arabia (I don't know if that's allowed or not; for non-Muslims to consume), 'all men and women' would become pork eaters in 10 years time. People who make poor choices, pay for poor outcomes. If the logic used in the article must prevail, why not begin by allowing all married women to drive? That's going to be a better step… I believe they're just scared of something that was not prohibited in the time of the Prophet of Islam. Allah knows best.

  13. I call bull shit on this entire thing.

This is like saying ‘we’re going to stop the next world war by not eating any meat’. There’s no connection between the two.

  14. I've just recently taken up driving, owing to the fact that we don't have any male family members living under our roof… we have an old faithful driver who has been with us since I was 5 years old but he's taken ill with a heart problem… So, I had no option but to drive!! Public commuting is just so expensive!! Not buses, I mean cabs & riks… My family members don't feel comfortable about me travelling in buses… Nor taking lifts from strangers… Like, thank God I'm not living in Saudia!!?!

As for women doing naughty stuff… I think they can give their guardians the slip any time they choose to, regardless of driving know-how… if they're imaginative enough i.e…. too bad I'm not lol

    • Thank God there is no women driving in Saudi Arabia. Women are the queen & the princess here, and very lucky to be best guided by our religious clerics.

  15. Bull shit…
What the hell was he doing looking at the woman in the muslim country.
Virgins… this tells how you perceive virtues and qualities of a woman
These views are a disgrace for Muslim men and oppologise to my muslim sisters on their behalf.

  16. Assalam Alaikum,

I think their reasoning is flawed because if men can drive around and still be virgins so can women. You cannot cure what is in the heart, as stated in some of the comments above, if people have corruption in them they will find ways to break the moral code. Many muslims, both male and female, engage in less than Islamic relationships in Saudi Arabia even when women are not allowed to drive. There are ways of men and women to meet up in private somewhere…where there is a will there is a way. I have not yet witnessed illegal sexual relations amongst people but I do know that people can and do meet in private.

I am not against women being allowed to drive, as long as they are observing purdah which prevents evil. I think the perspective of women driving is what is important to take into account. If driving around is done to show that women are equal to men and should be empowered to do whatever they want, I think this is wrong. If driving is seen as the first step to "womens' liberation" where they can dress however they like, then this is wrong. Women should be allowed to drive for emergencies and the like, necessities even, but it is, I think, against Islamic decorum for a woman to draw attention to herself among men. Having said this, I also think it is not possible to FORCE Islamic decorum on anyone.

But this is just my opinion. Allah knows best. May Allah guide us all to the Truth and show us the right path. Ameen.

  17. virgin or no virgin who cares .. these badoos are still stuck with this nation of strict sense of virginity. I have to ask them one question you guys think if women don't drive then they are 100% virgins. what a nonsesne.. why you care about that half of Saudi Arabia is anyway is actually gay. and they pretend to be straight.

  18. ……………..It means that all Saudi men are not virgin as they drive…….this conclusion is baseless and idiotic………………This reason is an Open INSULT to women of
Saudi Arabia…….and all MUSLIM WOMEN in world…………………….

  19. this decisiontaker may be a nonmuslim to prove to the world that islam is not practicable(naooz bi llah).
Icould,nt stop crying on this, and i swear Allah will take revenge for each n every tear of a muslim like me.

  20. This is badly written. You need a better copyeditor. There are 2 sentences that don't even make sense, and it repeats itself.

  21. Though there’s no harm in this policy by saying it’s our culture but I'm not agreed with the reason they have designed to make it at state level. I think, this discussed reason is a stupid reason for establishing this policy I still truly believe dat no body can be controlled by these state level policies as it’s totally on human beings whether they want to control their selves or not as decided by the Islam and we do believe that, one who can drive a car will be educated enough and if he is Muslim than at the age of driving he must be mature enough to know the circumstances of sin in Islam. In fact this policy will express us in a way that we cannot follow Islam until or unless we’re banned with policies nobody has think about this last point.

  22. Allah ki lanat ho tm par asi soch rakhna walay mulivioo par…………. women have same rights as man. why saudi senceless mulivi think that..

  23. In Bangladesh Arohi is the first woman who took imitative and promoted cycling for women in Bangladesh be it in order to ride a bicycle to work, school or for recreation, with an aim to break the stigma attached to a girl on a cycle and promotes freedom of mobility. Similarly, in India, motorcycle and scooter driving by women including Muslim women is quite common. It is just a matter of taking initiative by Pakistani women. They need to be encouraged by their family members and should be appreciated by our society. Our Pakistani female TV stars film actresses and models if start driving motorbikes on the roads as a fun can set a good example. Similarly, educated girls from upper class families should also come forward as trend setters in this. In Indonesia women drive motorbike and cars, bike and bus and truck! so what happend! thats great!

  24. one cant be more illogical in giving a decision than this one. our religion doesnt want us to live like monks; living aloof of worldly affairs instead we are required to be morally so strong that we can evade the filth of worldly desires just like we keep ourselves clean while walking in a muddy place. Quran and Hadith forbids men to cast second eye/look onto women and orders women not to provoke this. But nowhere we are instructed to lock the women up even if they are required to go out necessarily. so its absurd

  25. well one can not be more illogical in giving a decision than this. Our religion doesnt want us to live liike monks;living aloof and away from worldly affairs. instead we are required to live a pious life while performing our daily routine.

  26. Those here agreeing with the Saudi clerics, here's something for you.
Hazrat Haleema, foster mother of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) rode on a camel.
Hazrat Aisha(R.A), wife of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) rode on a camel in Jang e Jamal.
Riding a camel at that time is equivalent to driving a car in this age.
Hope you can see where this is leading if you're agreeing with the Saudi clerics.

  27. i thought Saudi mullahs are better then are very own local ones, but they too are just to much.

  28. STOP MAKING OUR RELIGION SEEM CRAZY WITH YOUR CRAZY THEORY.

It is because of people like you that Islam has such a bad reputation nowadays. People like you have RUINED the true essence of Islam. You are NOT doing it good by imposing your baseless theories as laws.

  29. OH. MY. GOD!!! Talk about vastly exaggerating the situation! By this logic, women should not be allowed to set a foot outside the house at all. That would surely reduce the chances of "fitnah". But why hasn't this been done? Because it would make women's lives miserable. Same applies to this ban on driving.

The current Saudi situation is just RIDICULOUS. They ban women from driving but allow women to be driven around by non-mahram drivers!!! This has resulted in many extra-marital affairs. Also, what's there to stop a woman's lover from driving to her house and picking her up while the husband is away? This ban is clearly NOT the best solution to the problem.

If women were allowed to marry a man of their choice, as is their Islamic right, and the man treated them with love and affection, as is the man's Islamic duty, then the need for the them to commit "fitnah" would be eliminated to a great extent anyways.

TO ALL THE MEN WHO AGREE WITH THE SAUDI CLERICS: DOES THE IDEA ABOVE NOT SEEM LIKE A MUCH BETTER WAY OF DEALING WITH THE SITUATION INSTEAD OF MAKING WOMEN'S LIVES MISERABLE?

  30. funniest research ever read,do suadies respect there mothers and sister,i think they dont ,they are disgracing women of the whole world.

  31. I think the "statement' has less to do with Islam, and more with the taboo that if women are given the option to drive, they will become more liberated to do what they want to do, which includes 'immoral liaisons". I live in USA, am a muslim, have a daughter who drives and studies and works. Hate to say it, but my daughter has proven all above statements wrong.
Now the reality, car driving is a dual-edged weapon. If females drive then as mothers they can take better care of daily chores, going to work and managing the family…I am living through it. As unmarried, they become a productive part of home and not a liability to be escorted around.
We have to give the mothers, daughter and all females the liberty defined by religion, and not use religion to hold them back…

  32. This is insane. I drive. I'm not gay or raping women and paying prostitutes. Saudis really need to get their shit straight.

  33. Does the East not realise how rediculuous these kind of statements and articles make you look. I respect Islam and live in an Islamic state but such decree's and arguements are so 'crazy' and 'rediculous' that all it does his harm the Islam in eyes of the wider world.

  34. I don't think the problem lies in women driving or not. The PROFESSOR was just too much of a stud:P

  35. hahahaha the truth is that in saudia the ‘moral decline’ is very much alive and kicking but it is hidden.someone please tell me if this guy is so islami then why did he even look towards that woman?this ban is like banning of education for woman in afghanistan by taliban.they think education will corrupt the mind of a woman and saudis think driving a car would make a woman lose her virginity!lol
