WAPDA clinch Gold Cup hockey

WAPDA clinched the title of the All Pakistan NBP Gold Cup Hockey Tournament after defeating NBP in extra time at the Faisalabad Hockey Stadium on Thursday. In a final full of activity and pace, WAPDA and NBP remained locked four-all in the given time and were then given extra time in which WAPDA got the winning golden goal to take the title 5-4. At the first half, WAPDA were leading by 2-1 but the chain of attack and counterattack increased in the second session and WAPDA got two more goals but NBP responded with three to go even till the final whistle was blown. The teams were given the extra time to decide the outcome of the match and WAPDA somehow after great efforts got the wining goal. WAPDA scored through Aleem Bilal who got two goals and Muhammad Mudassar stared with three. On the other hand NBP stars of fight were Muhammad Dilber, Akhtar Ali, M Atiq and Muhammad Toufeeq, all of them shared one goal each. . Ex-Test Cricketer/Incharge Sports National Bank of Pakistan Iqbal Qasim was the chief guest on the final. Cash prize of Rs 20,000 went to NBP while the winning trophy with cash prize of Rs 40,000 was given to WAPDA. On the occasion, Organising Secretary Olympian Rana Mujahid Ali, Tournament Director Olympian Khalid Bashir, DHA Faisalabad President Haji Rana Muhammad Mazhar Khan, Commissioner Faisalabad Saeed Tahir Hussain and DCO Faisalabad Naseem Sadiq were also present.
