US Senate ties strings to Pakistan aid

The US Senate voted on Wednesday to tie strings to military aid to Pakistan as they advanced a massive annual defense spending bill. Senators unanimously approved an amendment by Democratic Senator Bob Casey aimed at blocking counterinsurgency aid to Pakistan until Islamabad takes aggressive steps to curb the use of roadside bombs blamed for the deaths of US soldiers in neighbouring Afghanistan.
The White House has threatened to veto the $662 billion measure over tough new rules requiring military detention of terrorism suspects and affirming that US citizens who join extremist groups may be detained forever without trial. The Defense Authorisation legislation is seen as a sure bet for passage because it affects US troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, and lawmakers hoped to make it the vehicle for tough new economic sanctions on Tehran.

  1. It must not be$662 Billions it is most definitely $662 million. Can I also thank US for intending to do what they want to do. This amount is 'peanuts' and would have gone in to the pockets of certain well known money swindlers and enemies of the masses.
