Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan formally accepted the resignation of former provincial information minister Sharjeel Memon on Thursday. The resignation that had caused much hue and cry was approved before Memon’s return from Dubai and ahead of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah’s meeting with the governor. Talking to the media at the Karachi airport after his arrival in the evening, Memon said he would continue to be with the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). He said he could not leave the PPP for the sake of his ministry. He also said he was thankful to the governor for accepting his resignation from the cabinet. Responding to a question, Memon said he had nothing to do with former Sindh home minister Dr Zulfiqar Ali Mirza’s actions. However, he added, his association with Mirza was a personal matter. Condemning the attack on Mirza in Manchester, Memon termed it as “an attempt to kill a lion”. He added that Mirza is still a PPP activist and has not been expelled from the party. Later, Shah called on Khan at the Governor’s House. According to official sources, after a one-on-one meeting between the two, representatives of PPP and Muttahida Qaumi Movement joined the meeting. The current political situation, the new local government system and matters related to the provincial government came under discussion, added the sources.
