The Lahore High Court on Thursday ordered Punjab chief secretary to give his decision on an application pending in his office against appointment of Punjab Inspector General of Prisons Kokab Nadeem Warraich till December 14. Justice Umar Ata Bandial passed the order on a petition filed by Mian Farooq Nazeer, DIG prisons, challenging appointment of Punjab Inspector General of Prisons Kokab Nadeem Warraich.
On Thursday, the petitioner’s counsel Asghar Ali Gill pointed out that the petitioner also moved a application to the chief secretary against the appointment of Nadeem but no decision was made on it till date. The court ordered a law officer to ask the chief secretary to decide the application before December 14 and adjourned the matter. Mian Farooq Nazeer, a DIG prisons, filed the petition, saying after the retirement of former prisons IG Sarfraz Ahmad Mufti on April 23, 2008, he (the petitioner) was given additional charge of the vacant post while he was posted as the DIG prisons, Multan region. He said his case for promotion against the vacant post was also forwarded to the provincial selection board by the Home Department. However, in February 2009, the governor’s rule was imposed in the province and he was directed to relinquish the additional charge of Punjab prisons IG, he said.
