Services of the 8,000 teachers recruited through a test conducted by IBA Sukkur would be regularised soon, even though their contracts expired this June, said Senior Sindh Education & Literacy Minister Pir Mazharul Haq in a statement issued on Thursday. Haq said the law has been framed and it would soon be tabled as a bill in the Sindh Assembly. However, the minister warned, regularisation of few of these teachers might be reviewed before taking any action because they are bent upon creating hindrances in the regularisation process through unprovoked protests. Haq said the teachers recruited through the IBA test were actually hired on a three-year contract.
He said since these teachers came through a transparent process, the Sindh government has already shown a determination to regularise their services after collecting reports about their performance. He also said their regularisation involves a legislation process, so their contract has already been extended for six months to obtain some time for the passage of the bill in the assembly. However, he expressed concern over a few demonstrations that were in violation of the contract that the teachers have signed.
He said the services of all the diligent teachers would be regularised, except for a few who are violating their contract and inciting unrest among the teachers through their protests.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Sindh Education & Literacy Department, under the watchful eye of the World Bank and the European Union, appointed nearly 6,000 teachers in 2007-08 following a strict recruitment process and qualification test conducted by IBA Sukkur.
Similarly, around 8,000 teachers were selected in 2010-2011 following a transparent, merit- and need-based pattern with test conducted by the University of Sindh.
All merit-based teachers have been appointed on a three-year contract, which is extendable, subject to their performance.
