At least nine militants were killed when security forces targeted their hideouts with artillery in Upper Tehsil of the Mamozai area on Thursday. Sources said that security forces also destroyed three hideouts of militants in the remote hilly areas of Mamozai. The areas targeted during the military raid include Satar Sum, Shaho Khail and Shanaori.
As the military offensive is gaining momentum, numerous people have started migrating to safer places. The people of Mir Qalam Khail, Ado Khail, Torsimat, Akhunzadgan and Arghanjo and others areas are migrating to Hango through intricate routes.
Security forces have also launched a search operation in the area and arrested several suspects from the Argahnjo area of Orakzai Agency. During the last 16 days of military operation, security forces have claimed killing 83 militants and injuring 72, while destroying dozens of militant hideouts.
A low intensity blast partially damaged the boundary wall of the Peshawar district coordination officer’s (DCO) office at the Bacha Khan Chowk on Thursday morning. No casualties were reported. Police said that unknown miscreants had planted 700 grams of explosive materials near the boundary wall in front of the DCO office, which went off at 6:30am on Thursday. The blast caused fear and panic in the area while heavy contingents of police rushed the blast site to examine the nature of the explosion. Edhi ambulances and Fire brigade squad also reached, but no human casualties were reported. Police and bomb disposal squad cordoned off the area and started investigation. Keeping in view the advent of the holy month of Muharram, police have beefed up security across the city and heavy contingents of police and frontier constabulary have been deployed at all the entry points of Peshawar.
