PILDAT – a dialogue group on civil-military relations – has welcomed the government’s decision to investigate the issue of alleged memo through the Parliamentary Committee on National Security. However, the group demanded that the terms of reference of the investigation by the parliamentary committee should be made public. It also asked that the timeframe of investigations and the key milestones of the probe be shared with the public. The group believed this move would strengthen the parliament’s oversight on executive and security issues.
The group met in Islamabad today and included the following members: former Balochistan governor Lt General (r) Abdul Qadir Baloch; Defence analyst Dr Hasan Askari Rizvi; former Sindh governor Lt Gen (r) Moinuddin Haider; Daily Pakistan Chief Editor Mujib-ur-Rehman Shami; Dr Parvez Hassan; former federal secretary Rustam Shah Mahmond; former minister Shafqat Mahmood; former Punjab governor Shahid Hamid; former ambassador Air Vice Marshal (r) Shahzad Chaudhry; Senator SM Zafar; Lt Gen (r) Talat Masood, former federal secretary Tasneem Noorani; PILDAT Executive Director Ahmed Bilal Mehboob, and PILDAT Joint Director Aasiya Riaz.
