Human capital a must for economic development

As many as 350 graduates of the Preston University on Wednesday were awarded bachelors and masters degree.
The brilliant students who grabbed top positions in their respective programmes were given gold medals and certificates in a convocation held at the varsity’s premises. Defence Minister Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar was chief guest on the occasion.
Addressing to the graduating students, the minister said, “The success of a nation lies in its educated human capital which plays a key role in country’s economic, social and political development.” He said the incumbent government in spite of financial crunch had allocated sufficient funds in the 2011-12 budget, as it was committed to improve education system of the country. “In an effort to promote quality higher education in the country, the government considers it imperative to involve the private sector in promoting and strengthening the area,” said Mukhtar.
He appreciated the work of the Preston University for strengthening the efforts of government in promoting the cause of higher education and effectively meeting the need of domestic and international job market for qualified and professionally trained manpower. Vice-Chancellor Abdul Basit said the Preston University was offering high quality market-driven education in the fast-growing fields of Business Administration, Information Technology, Social Sciences, Natural and Applied Engineering. He said the varsity, since its inception 27 years ago, had produced 60,000 qualified and trained graduates and had a large network of campuses in the country with total enrolment of 12,000 students.
