30 arrested in raids; ASWJ claims 100 members rounded up

Security forces arrested more than 30 persons in various raids on Tuesday. The raids were carried out in reaction to the Numaish Chowrangi attack in which two scouts were killed. They were conducted in many areas including Nagan Chowrangi, Shah Faisal Colony, North Karachi, North Naimabad and Landhi. More than 30 members of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) were arrested and taken to an undisclosed location. Police said that the raids were being conducted to maintain law and order during Muharram. The spokesperson of the ASWJ, Taj Muhammad Hanfi claimed that more than 100 members of organisation had been arrested during the last 24 hours. He alleged that the law enforcers broke into the activists’ homes to arrest them. Separately, police found large cache of weapons in a graveyard in the Mominabad area of SITE. Three bags containing hand grenades, repeaters, detonators wires and explosive material were recovered.
MURDERED: A sub-inspector, Aleem Shah, was killed at Bacha Khan Flyover in front of Shehzad Cinema in Orangi Town. His body was shifted taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
