The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) observed “Pakistan Solidarity and Stability Day” across the country on Monday as a protest against the NATO forces’ attack on an army check-post in Mohmand Agency.
Programmes were organised at the MQM offices throughout the country while the main event was held at MQM Headquarters Nine Zero, where a large number of MQM activists and sympathisers were present.
Strongly condemning the unwarranted aggression, MQM chief Altaf Hussain termed it an attack on the national sovereignty and security, and endorsed the decision of the party’s coordination committee to observe November 28 as the ‘solidarity and stability day’.
Altaf directed taking down all party flags from houses, buildings and other public places and hoisting national flags instead, to weld the nation into a strong bond of unity for defending the honour of the country.
Speaking at the main programme at Nine Zero, MQM Coordination Committee Deputy Convener Dr Farooq Sattar said the enthusiastic response given by the public to the national stability and solidarity day has proved that the Pakistani nation is capable of giving a fitting reply to any aggression on its borders.
Paying rich tributes to the officers and personnel martyred in the NATO attack, he said the challenge should be converted into an opportunity and it should be made clear to the world that any adventure against the sovereignty of the country would be strongly dealt with.
“The [Pakistani] nation should be united to make the defence of the country impregnable,” he said. “The MQM would not desist from offering any sacrifices and the army should not consider itself alone as the entire nation is firmly behind the armed forces.”
