Keep ‘them’ away from Afaq, Kazmi asks Rangers

Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi chief Afaq Ahmed’s counsel Syed Muhammad Iqbal Kazmi has appealed to the Pakistan Rangers Sindh director general for providing security to his client who is expected to be released on Tuesday (today).
Kazmi said if Afaq or any of his family members are harmed in any way, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain and his party should be held responsible.
During a media briefing held in the Sindh High Court premises, the Haqiqi chief’s counsel said Afaq’s detention is in clear violation of court orders, and the government is eligible for a contempt-of-court hearing.
“We shall approach the upper judiciary as well as human rights organisations, at both the national and international levels,” he added. He said following the decision of the Supreme Court regarding NRO, the accused affiliated with the MQM, including Altaf, Babar Ghauri and Farooq Sattar, should have been arrested and tried in criminal cases registered against them.
He also said cases of corruption registered against Pakistan People’s Party leaders and government officers were reopened and proceeded to the NAB courts, but criminal cases against MQM leaders have not been reopened due to the influence of the party and reconciliatory politics.
Kazmi said as per the Supreme Court’s orders, all no-go areas should be finished. He said Afaq would not take part in any political activities during Muharramul al Haram.
Responding to a question, the counsel blamed MQM for Sunday’s incident. He said it was the party’s conspiracy to sabotage Haqiqi chief’s possible release.
