A new book ‘Blood of Husayn’ by eminent research scholar Dr Muhammad Raza Kazmi was launched at the DHA Central Library on Monday.
Launched under the aegis of literary organisation ‘Bista-e-Yaran’, the book encompasses the life and legacy of Imam Hussain (AS) and a detailed narrative of the tragedy of Karbala.
Renowned author and scholar Dr Hussain Muhammad Jafri presided over the event. Eminent scholars, writers and personalities spoke on the occasion as well.
Former ambassador and intellectual Mehdi Masood said that the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS) was an example of not surrendering to the oppressor and protecting Islam. “Hussain (AS) has become immortal and has left deep imprints on the generations to come,” said the former diplomat.
He said that Imam Hussain (AS) is universally regarded as a symbol of truth, courage and sacrifice and not just to a particular religion or sect. “Imam Hussain (AS) has an exalted status and belongs to the entire humanity.”
The chief guest of the event, Dr Hussain Muhammad Jafri said that the battle of Karbala has had far reaching and multifarious effects on the Islamic civilisation.
“Despite all odds, Hussain (AS) succeeded in building an ideological counterpoise to the empire, and to charge the imagination of the elements opposed to the imperial order,” Jafri said.
Sharing her views about the book, Prof Shahida Hasan said that ‘Blood of Husayn’ gives an account of the events of Karbala in a most concise, truthful, authoritative and comprehensive manner.
Prominent writer and scholar Maulana Iftikhar Arif was also among the speakers. “Imam Hussain (AS) upheld his mission to save and protect Islam in its original form,” Arif observed.
