The prices of vegetables decreased sharply in the previous week and there was huge rush at Sunday bazaars of the city. There has been significant decline in the prices of onions, potatoes, ginger, tomatoes, chicken and other vegetables. However, the prices of fruits increased a little bit. The price of ginger decreased by Rs 15 per kg and it was sold for Rs 65 per kg. The prices of potatoes decreased by Rs 5 per kg, while tomatoes were sold for Rs 52 per kg as compare to previous week when it was sold for Rs 65 per kg. The price of lemon decreased by Rs 5 per kg and it was sold for Rs 35 per kg. Significant decreas in prices of onion, which was available for Rs 35 per kg, was also seen. In the last one month the prices of onion remained more than Rs 50 per kg. The price of chicken also decreased Rs 14 per kg and it was sold for Rs 145 per kg.
The prices of fruits remained high as compared to the prices of last week. The price of apples increased by Rs 30 per kg and it was sold for Rs 120 per kg. The price of bananas also increased by Rs 5 per dozen and it was sold for Rs 145 per dozen. The price of pomegranate increased Rs 20 per kg and it was sold for Rs 150 per kg. Like previous weeks, the City District Government staff remained absent from the bazaars and people were left at the mercy of shopkeepers, who tried to hide the price list from the customers in order to charge high prices. The customers said that the shopkeepers did not display price list prominently and tried to charge high prices. “The city district government should monitor these things,” lamented a housewife Zahida Masood at Green Town Sunday bazaar adding a shopkeeper tried to charge extra money through this tactic. Meanwhile CDGL handout said that it has warned five shopkeepers in the city’s Sunday bazaars for overcharging and also registered cases against three shopkeepers.
