Women MPAs demand 10pc general seats’ quota

Women legislators from the provincial assemblies of Balochistan, Khyber PakhtunKhwa, Sindh and Punjab and representatives of civil society organisations on Saturday demanded mandatory 10 percent quota of general seats.
“We, women parliamentarians, will also demand political parties develop consensus among themselves to amend the Political Parties Act so as to provide mandatory quota of 10 per cent of general seats to women before the next elections, in addition to the already available reserved seats for them,” said a press release issued by Aurat Foundation.
A declaration endorsed by women parliamentarians from the four provincial assemblies attending a two-day national consultation, organised by Legislative Watch Programme for Women’s Empowerment of Aurat Foundation. Sindh Assembly Deputy Speaker Ms Shehla Raza, Balochistan Inter-Provincial Coordination Minister Dr Ruqiya Hashmi, , Balochistan Women’s Development Minister Ghazala Gola, Heer Soho, MQM MPA from Sindh, Nusrat Saher Abbasi, PML-F MPA from Sindh, Humaira Alwani, PPP MPA from Sindh, Shameela Aslam, PML-N MPA from Punjab, Faiza Malik, PPP MPA from Punjab, Amna Butter, PPP MPA, Deeba Mirza, PML-N MPA from Punjab, Shazia Tehmas, PPP MPA from KP, Nargis Samin, PPP-Sherpao MPA from KP and Noor-us-Sehar, PPP MPA from KP attended the function.
