Pakistan Television turns 47

The largest TV network in the country Pakistan Television (PTV) celebrated its 47th anniversary on Saturday.
PTV came into being on 26 November 1964. It was started in premises of radio Pakistan and the then prime minister, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto inaugurated the PTV building in 1972.
A Japanese electronic firm started PTV on trail basis, transmission was first black and white.
Then PTV centres were established in Karachi, Rawalpindi and Islamabad in 1967 and in Peshawar and Quetta in 1974. It started its colour transmission in 1976.
PTV started khabarnama in 1970 and started news bulletin at national hookup in 1975 besides English and urdu bulletin PTV televises news bulletin in Arabic, Punjabi, Pushto, Hindko, Sindhi, Brahvi, Balochi, Kashmiri,Gojri ,Shina and Balti languages.
PTV National is the country’s only “regional entertainment channel” which broadcast 24-hour programming that representing all four provinces of the country.
Departments of PTV includes: programmes, engineering, news, current affairs, sports, information technology, international relations , finance, administration and personnel, finance, marketing and a training academy.
In 2000 three channels were working in the public sector, PTV Global was launched in 2006 with its transmission to the USA commencing on April 22, 2006 and for the UK on April 2, 2007.
It is viewed in over 52 countries worldwide including regions such as Asia, Africa, Middle East and Europe. PTV educates, entertains and inculcates the greater awareness of history heritage, current probes and development at global level to mobilise the international community for solidarity, peace and progress.
PTV has the privilege in pioneering television in South Asia.
PTV has distinction of being available on the cable network, satellite and terrestrial network covering over 90 percent of the country’s population besides being beamed via satellite to over 52 countries across the globe.
