In a bid to address public transport problems, the Lahore Transport Company (LTC) is launching another project of buses to run on The Mall between RA Bazaar and Sandha today (Saturday) at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.
This was revealed by LTC Chairman Khawaja Ahmed Hassaan while chairing a meeting at the LTC office. Hassaan said that under the phased programme, 211 buses will be available in Lahore very soon. He said that management of new buses will charge fares in accordance with the approved fare notification, adding that a modernised tracking system was being installed in new and refurbished buses, which would help LTC monitor and evaluate urban transport.
The LTC chairman said that owing to reforms introduced in the urban transport system by the Punjab government, multinational and local transport companies were playing a vital role in strengthening transport sector of the city.
He said that promotion of CNG was the corner stone of the urban transport policy. Hassaan said that the Punjab government was encouraging environment-friendly CNG fitted transport in cities. He said that new buses would ply on route 1 including RA Bazaar, PAF Mess, Old Airport, Girja Chowk, Afshan Chowk, Fortress Stadium, Zafar Ali Road, Club Chowk, Governor House, Faisal Chowk, High Court/GPO, Anarkali, Zila Katchery, Civil Secretariat, MAO College, Raj Garh, Islampura Mor, Tariq Building and Sanda.
