A petition was filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday for an inquiry against organisers of the Indo-Pak dangal, who humiliated Pakistan internationally by fielding junior wrestlers against seasoned wrestlers of India.
The petition was filed by Farooq Bajwa holding the Punjab Sports Board secretary and other board officials responsible for defeat of Pakistan in local wrestling. Bajwa alleged that weak wrestlers were chosen to contest with India wrestlers in a bid to please India. He said that local wrestlers selected by organisers were no match for experienced Indian wrestlers, therefore, they lost against Indians within a few minutes and defamed the country, which was full of renowned wrestlers. The petitioner said that organisers of the Indo-Pak dangal bruised the dignity of the nation and those behind the heinous lapse and dirty conspiracy deserved to be punished strictly.
He said that many Pakistani wrestlers, who won international awards in contests, were present but not selected to fight Indian wrestlers. Bajwa said that recently two Pakistan wrestlers won gold medals at the Commonwealth Games but organsiers tried to keep the timing of the dangal secret and did not publicise it so that strong wrestlers might be kept out. He said that organisers arranged weak wrestlers who took Rs 12,000 per fight.
He said that it was astonishing that event organisers ignored Rustam-e-Pakistan Usman Billo, Nadir Dar Bahawalpuriya, Azam Lurka of Army, Rustam-e-Asia Bashir Bhola Bhala and Rustam-e-Pakistan Usman Majeed. He requested the court to order an inquiry against the organisers and seek a report from the sports boards’ secretary as to why negligence was shown in selection of wrestlers for the fight.
