The Kahna Union Council 146 chief officer (CO) was killed by his opponents in his car while a local medical store owner, sitting along with the CO, was also killed in the attack in the Kahna Police precincts on Friday afternoon.
The Kahna chief officer in the Nishtar Town Municipal Corporation was identified as 45-year-old Rana Iqbal, a resident of Shadipura, while the medical store owner was identified as Ghulam Ali, a resident of Kahna.
As per details, Rana Iqbal was sitting in his car in front of his office, situated on the Ferozpur Road in Kahna, along with Ghulam Ali. A young man, wearing khaki trousers and black shirt, approached the victims on a motorbike (1111) and shot at them with a pistol. Rana Iqbal died on the spot while Ghulam Ali fainted due to excessive bleeding.
The locals of the area informed the police and rescue team. The rescue personnel reached the scene and took Ghulam Ali to a nearby hospital, however he died on the way to the hospital. The Kahna Police collected forensic evidence from the car and shifted the bodies to the morgue for autopsy. The police also took the car into custody for further investigations.
Kahna Station House Officer (SHO) Sarfraz Shah said that Rana Iqbal and his family had an old enmity with Zafri Nat and his family since many years. He said that Zafri Nat was killed allegedly by Malik Shahid, the brother of Rana Iqbal at Lakshmi Chowk a few years back after which Malik Shahid was sent to jail.
The Nat family had killed Rana Iqbal’s uncle six months ago. The SHO said that Rana Iqbal was not involved in the enmity of the two families, however the Nat family had killed him to stop him from pursuing the murder cases against them.
He said the victim’s family had not filed an application for the First Information Report (FIR) yet. However the police was conducting raids in Nat village to arrest the killer.
An eyewitness of the crime scene said that the killer changed the magazine of his pistol after shooting the victims, lit a cigarette, took a puff and left the crime scene very confidently. Ghulam Ali’s brother Ghulam Muhammad told reporters that his two nephews had tried to capture the killer but he pointed a gun at them and left the area in the presence of a large number of people. Ghulam Ali was third among his four brothers and he was married one year back. The incident created panic in the area and the shopkeepers closed their shops in terror.
