The US Ambassador in Islamabad, Cameron Munter said that Pak-Iran Gas Pipeline project is not a good idea.
Responding to questions from students at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), he defended the Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India (TAPI) gas pipeline project.
He went on to say that his country was taking memogate issue and Hussain Haqqani’s resignation seriously. “The U.S. will provide assistance to Pakistan if it is sought,” he added. However, it is internal affair of Pakistan and its investigation is responsibility of Pakistan and its decision has also to be taken by Pakistani leadership, he said.
Cameron Munter said he had never held a joint meeting with Imran Khan, chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Director General ISI, Lt. Gen Ahmad Shuja Pasha.
He maintained that his country had no objection on appointment of Sherry Rehman as ambassador in US.
The US wanted civil and military relations with Pakistan, he said adding if Pakistan would be strong then the US would be stable.
“We honour the opinion of Army Chief Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani. Army Chief had objection over presence of some US officials in Pakistan and these personnel have been sent back to US in reverence to the opinion of army chief”, he remarked.
US aid to Pakistan is linked to war on terror, he held. “We are doing against terrorism what government and people of Pakistan want”, he remarked.
Pakistan has good relations with China and the US, he said adding, “We want good relations with other countries in region too”.
Talking of leadership he said the US wanted a strong Pakistan. “Success of Pakistan is success of the US,” he held.

  1. The global focus on Iran goes back to the year 1943 when the first meeting of USA, Britain and Russia was held in Tehran in which the idea of the United Nations Organization replacing the League of Nations was mooted. But it was the biased international stroke that when the UNO was set up Iran was not there as founding base-member. The idiom of diplomacy changes, but not the focus.

  2. the paki govt better do what USA says…they end up doing it anyway…so skip all the brave denials which is only for your jihadi audience..and just obey the American masters…

  3. The President of Pakistan has choice between the Integrity of the nation and the safety of his assets abroad. Should he listen to consience if there is one or obey his mentors! The mentors are far more powerful then his conscience but does that allow us as nation to strip and bend?

  4. US Governor General and Viceroy of Pakistan lord muntton is telling as ususal what is right what is wrong to illerate People of Pakistan . Why Pakistan cant decide its energy issues by its own when USA is deciding its energy policy and invading countires for oil

  5. American diplomats shud shut the _ up and let us sort our problems out!! its time we stop bending over to the warlords and stand up straight to protect our national interests.. Also im very sure out political leadership will bow down to their masters and their wishes !!!

  6. What about if Pakistani Embassador said in Washington like this:
Coalition of the US with EU is not a god idea, not acceptable for Pakistan"

  7. Why don't we tell US, to pay us $500 million in the shape of lost transit fee for next 30 years with an escalation factor by 10% each year. Also pay us $3 Billion a year, so we can buy expensive gas and oil for our energy needs from middle eastern countries. And oh, by the way, this should be paid in hard cash, not in the shape of hardware or personnel training crap. And while, I am at it, why not kick this dumb @$$ punk ambassador muntter, who is lecturing us.
