The Supreme Court of Pakistan, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, rejected government’s pleas for the review of the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO), a private TV channel reported on Friday.
The decision was given by the full bench of the apex court after the government failed to prepare any case for the review. A 17-member larger bench resumed hearing of the federation’s pending pleas seeking review of certain aspects of December 16, 2009 decision.
In today’s proceedings, the court asked Law Secretary Masood Chishti to read the complete text of letters exchanged between the government of Pakistan and Swiss authorities in 1997. The chief justice then reprimanded the secretary as he refused to read any further after the first letter. Later, the second letter was read by Attorney General Maulvi Anwarul Haq on court’s directives.
On Thursday, the court allowed the federation to file additional documents with the review petition on the National Reconciliation Ordinance. Earlier, the court had declined to accept additional documents with the ruling that as per settled rules (of the apex court), additional documents could not be accepted at the review stage.
The court directed the Attorney General to ask former Law minister Dr Babar Awan to file additional documents from the federal government.

    • Do you think SC should act as section office of Govt/ DO YOU THINK SC recovering billions of rupees looted by this Govt through their cronies is bad act. Daro us waqat say jab Allah ki bay awaz lathi hukumrano kay sar per pari gi and now the time has come.

  1. Well Done Supreme Court. Historical decision. Now PPP " Tabalchi" will start beating drums and will try to malign SC. This time SC must take strict action because enough is enough. SC showed leniency in case of Babar Awan and Chishti Federal Law Secretary. They should have sent to jail for contempt of court.

  2. Nahoosat Restoration Order review petition rejected.Gand khanay walay want to enjoy corruption money legally and peacefully so that others can follow them. It is necessary to bring in court whose assets do not match with their visible sources of income as well as whose wealth does not match the income tax paid.
