The residents of Karachi were treated to a cultural night with musicians and performing artistes putting up an entertaining show for a fascinated audience.
The hip hop concert was organised by the city’s US Consulate at the residence of Consul General William Martin.
The interesting part of the concert was that the audience, mostly youngsters from different parts of the city, had never before attended such an event.
About the event, which featured live performances of spiritual and contemporary music and forms of art from local and American artistes and musicians, Martin said, “The people of Karachi enjoy music and it is an opportunity for them to witness Pakistani musicians and artistes performing along with their American counterpart on a single platform.”
The highlight of the evening was a combined qawwali presentation of Amjad Sabri Qawwal and US artistes.
The crowd also applauded the performance of singer Manal Farhan and other US artistes for their act on a famous wedding song titled “Mahi Aavay Ga”.
Farhan focused on movement and her act took inspiration from Yoga, Capoeira (Brazilian art form) and dance.
A group of artistes known as Finding Eternal Wisdom (FEW) acknowledged the evolution of music, visual arts, the spoken word and dance as basic elements of culture and knowledge.
The group honoured through a performance uniting dance, music and theatre in the manner of hip hop.
The other performers of the event included Sudan-born singer Alsarah, hip hop performer from Chicago, Aquil Charlton, and two dance performers Daniel Haywood and Jonathan Clair.
