The academic council of King Edward Medical University (KEMU) in a meeting on Wednesday has unanimously resolved to retain the status of the university.
Former principals of KEMC initiated a move to revert the university’s status to college, prompting the council to take action against it. They stated that the university had progressed massively since its elevation “therefore, we do not want any change in the present status of the university.”
They added that the academic council, faculty members and students were the true stakeholders of the university and no individual or organisation should speak on their behalf, except the office of the KEMU vice chancellor. They further resolved that the hospitals should be under KEMU control. The Pakistan Medical Association has also announced its meeting on reverting the university’s status.
