The Indian government might have spent at least Rs 500 million — three times more than the government’s claim of spending Rs 160 million — to keep alive Ajmal Kasab, Geo News quoted a report by Indian media on Wednesday. On Monday, the Indian Home Department submitted that the state government had so far spent Rs 160 million on the gunman captured in the attack on a Mumbai hotel in November 2008.
But a day later, if top police brass and bureaucrats associated with the case are to be believed, it transpired that a whopping Rs 487.5 million had been spent on the jailed terrorist, the TV channel reported. “From our estimates, the state government must have spent a minimum of Rs 500 million to keep the terrorist alive,” a senior official was quoted as saying.
