The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday disposed of ta petition seeking action against Hussain Haqqani, former Pakistani ambassador to the US, and Mansoor Ijaz over the memogate scandal.
Justice Anwar Khan Kasi held that Mansoor Ijaz, Mike Mullen and the US ambasador to Pakistan could not be made respondents as they were not citizens of the country. Petitioner Maulvi Iqbal Haider advocate argued that the memogate scam had damaged the country’s sovereignty and appealed to the court to direct Hussain Haqqani not to leave the country without the prior permission of this court, in the interest of solidarity, integrity, sovereignty and security of Pakistan till the final decision of the writ petition. He had sought permission to make federation of Pakistan, the secretaries, the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Defence , Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cabinet Division, Hussain Haqqani, Mansoor Ejaz, Mike Mullen and the US ambassador to Pakistan respondents.
