The Islamabad Police foiled an attempt to smuggle liquor into the federal capital, as a huge quantity of the contraband was recovered from a truck during checking and arrested three persons in the precincts of Tarnol Police Station.
Police enhanced surveillance on a tip off and constituted a special team was constituted supervised by Station House Officer (SHO) Tarnol Fazal-ur- Rehman. They stopped a truck (RIK-257) at a picket near Tarnol Chowk on the GT Road, a police spokesman said on Thursday.
Police seized 7,200 bottles of various brands concealed in cartons. The arrested persons included Javed Iqbal, Zahoor Khan and Abbas Khan, who are stated to be the residents of Havalian, Abbottabad.
A permit about the import of liquor for a local hotel was produced before the police which was found expired. Police have impounded the truck and further investigation into matter is underway. Meanwhile, Sub-Inspector Muhammad Ajmal from Tarnol police captured a drug trafficker Sartaj and recovered 1.520 kilogramme of hashish while Sub-Inspector Saleemullah from the Women Police Station arrested Rajesh Khan over the possession of ten bottles of liquor. Police in Industrial Area nabbed two thieves, Khan Wazir and Izatullah, and recovered 14 mobiles from them.
ASI Haider Ali from CIA Police arrested Jalil Ahmed, Adeeb, Nasir Mehmud, Babar Shehzad, Mohsin Zeb Gul Rehman and Majid in over the charges of possessing of stolen items while ASI Muhammad Ali from CIA Police recovered a 30 bore pistol from Mohsin Zeb.
